Poetry Medicine Circle I Open Mic Poetry Reading for Everyone in Love with Poetry

Poetry is a life-cherishing force. For poems are not words, after all, but fires for the cold, ropes let down to the lost, something as necessary as bread in the pockets of the hungry. - Mary Oliver

To honor National Poetry Month, we invite you to join us for the first Poetry Medicine Circle at our Healing Hive. We will share a cup of tea and read poetry for the soul, mind, and body.

Whether you come to read your own poems or to listen, this circle is for everyone in love with poetry. For everyone wandering on the wild pastures of life — hungry for wisdom, joy and healing. Author, John Fox, says that “writing and reading poems is a way of seeing and naming where we have been, where we are, and where we are going with our lives.”

Poetry is a way to look at the same thing with a renewed perspective. To take something old and make it anew. It is an alchemical resource for processing loss and growing into healing. It is a way to plant new seeds into the rich soil of imagination and with a gardener’s patience, to wait until the soul blooms, poem by poem, and the heart opens into a lush, indelible garden.

Come along, friends, and be part of this soul medicine circle. Bring 1-2 poems or poetic writings of your own and share them with the circle. You do not need to write poetry to participate. You can join in to listen to the readings. I will bring some of my own poems to read and share with you.

Be present and feel what rises in you as you listen. Listen with curiosity and kindness. No judgment. No literary criticism. Bring your journal and a pen, and capture lines that speak to your heart. Oil pastels and paper will be available for those who want to respond to a reading with a drawing.

To participate, please offer a contribution on a sliding scale, $15-35, or register at no charge if unable to pay. Our programs are made possible with support from individual donations, and your contribution keeps our offerings affordable and accessible to all.
