Soulpower dance is an empowering and exhilarating dance class incorporating meaningful and cathartic choreography to align our emotional expression with our embodied awareness. It is deeply intentional, inviting us to feel and embody our most elemental nature, connecting to earth, spirit, human, and each other. The class is an opportunity to have joyful fun, while digging deeper into wholeness, healing, and the illuminating spirit within.
Dance styles vary including hip-hop, modern, lyrical, jazz, world, and more. Moves are repeated through the dances for attainability. Getting it wrong or making it your own is highly encouraged. This dance is non-performative, though we have fun with an occasional flash mob. Dance experience may be helpful but not necessary. No dance experience is required! MEET OUR RADIANT TEACHER: KRISTY JOHNSON
DANCE SETS ME FREE!
I have always danced. I dance because it sets me free… it connects me to my body, my heart and to the interconnected community that we are.
My background as a long-time teacher (of all ages), certification in Zumba and Soulpower dance, and long-term meditation and yoga practice, inform how I show up. That… and a partner, two children, three dogs, and one cat!
The intentionality of the Soulpower movements, music, and incorporation of the feminine and masculine as well as all the elements- air, earth, metal, fire and water- brings me home over and over again. I can feel the surrender and my individual and the collective vibration rise up and up. It is for all these reasons that I became a certified Soulpower dance teacher and what I try to hold space for and co-create in this incredible, joyful, playful, heartful community. I dance to connect, to re-member, to feel, to play…. Come dance with me!
